- KABUL: The Daily Telegraph reports that the Taliban possess a list of approximately 25,000 Afghan citizens who collaborated with British forces. This list was initially leaked in 2022 due to an organizational error by a British official, with parts of it published on Facebook. The Taliban have declared that individuals on this list are considered “spies” and will not be included in any general amnesty. Officials from the group have announced the formation of special units to identify and monitor these individuals. They have also instructed border forces to prevent their exit from the country. In response, the UK government has conducted a covert operation known as “Rubifex,” which has thus far relocated over 24,000 individuals from the list to Britain. However, more than 2,000 individuals from this list remain in Afghanistan. British Defense Minister John Healey has apologized in the House of Commons for this “serious security breach.” He confirmed that many individuals on the list have not yet been notified and that the UK government will not carry out any further relocations under this program. Meanwhile, reports have emerged of arrests, torture, and killings of former Afghan government collaborators by the Taliban, despite the group’s promises of general amnesty at the beginning of their rule in Kabul.
