KABUL: More than 2,000 carats of emeralds extracted from the mines of Panjshir province were sold today in an auction.
Saifuddin Laton, a spokesperson for the Taliban in Panjshir, stated that in an auction held today, a total of 2,235 carats of emeralds extracted from four mines in the province were sold to domestic traders for a total value of $177,350.
He added that the initiation of a transparent process for the extraction and sale of emeralds not only boosts the local economy but also creates job opportunities for youth and broader trade prospects in Panjshir.
Additionally, Mawlavi Mohammad Qasim Amiri, head of Mines and Petroleum for the Taliban in Panjshir, noted that the emeralds were packaged in four boxes and auctioned in the presence of a monitoring committee.
