Azizi: Taliban Government Saved Afghanistan’s Banking System from Collapse

Mirwais Azizi, an Afghan businessman and investor, said in a recent interview that the current Taliban government managed the country’s banking system following the collapse of the previous administration in a way that drew the attention and surprise of some international experts. He said the banks were managed in a manner that prevented the banking system from collapsing and allowed banking operations to continue. The remarks come as the Taliban approach nearly five years in power in Afghanistan. During this period, the country has faced wide-ranging economic and social challenges, including rising poverty, unemployment and various restrictions.
