Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has described the Taliban as a reality in Afghanistan and said the international community should engage with the group.
Speaking at a joint meeting in Moscow involving the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, Lavrov said intelligence indicated that training camps for militant groups remained active in areas along Afghanistan’s borders.
He also warned that armed militants were attempting to enter Central Asian countries under the guise of tourists and migrants. The meeting focused on the security situation in Afghanistan and its implications for the wider region.
