U.S. offers $5 million reward for information on Mahmood Shah Habibi

WASHINGTON: The United States has announced a $5 million reward for information regarding Mahmood Shah Habibi, an Afghan-American citizen.

The U.S. State Department’s “Rewards for Justice” program released a statement on Monday, alongside a photo of Mr. Habibi.

According to the statement, Taliban intelligence detained this American citizen in August 2022.

The “Rewards for Justice”

program is offering up

to $5 million for any information that leads to locating and returning Mahmood Shah Habibi.

Habibi was arrested along with several other employees of the Asia Consulting Group, but, apart from him and one other individual, the rest of those detained have been released.

The Taliban government has not yet confirmed Habibi’s whereabouts or status.

Mahmood Shah Habibi is the former head of Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Authority and was managing a private company in Kabul after the fall of the previous republic regime.
