LONDON: The United Kingdom appointed
Richard Lindsay as its special representative for Afghanistan, THNews reported today.
The special representative has assumed responsibilities in the newly established UK office for Afghanistan since the beginning of this month (June), said the report.
Lindsay is a political figure in Britain, having previously held various political and security roles in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Experts sees representative’s role as a strategic shift in London’s policy towards Kabul.
Last week, the President of Kazakhstan also appointed a special representative for Afghanistan, which was welcomed by the Afghan authorities.
