KABUL: Nasir Ahmad Faiq, the Acting
Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, stated that Afghanistan is currently safe only for the Taliban.
He wrote on his X that four former security personnel who recently returned from Iran were extrajudicially killed in Jawzjan province; an action he described as a clear violation of Islamic principles and human rights.
The Taliban have not yet responded to this report. Previously, spokespeople for the group have consistently denied such claims and emphasized their commitment to general amnesty.
However, a number of former military personnel residing in Iran confirmed the incident, stating that the four individuals were shot after returning to Jawzjan, on their way home.
Former military members in Iran have expresse concerns that if they are forcibly returned to Afghanistan, they may face a similar fate.
Since the Taliban regained power in August 2021, thousands of former Afghan military personnel have sought refuge in neighboring countries, particularly Iran and Pakistan.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly reported on the detention, torture, and killings of former military personnel by the Taliban.
