ASTANA: Kazakhstan has confirmed its readiness to invest $500 million in the Trans-Afghan railway project.
Previously, Taliban officials had stated that Kazakhstan was prepared to invest this amount in the railway being constructed on Afghan territory, connecting Uzbekistan and Pakistan, but Kazakhstan had not officially commented on the matter until now.
A report from the rail freight website mentioned
Kazakh officials affirming the country’s willingness to invest half a billion dollars in the Trans-Afghan project.
Russia has also expressed its readiness to invest in this project, particularly in train machinery.
An agreement regarding this railway was reached in 2018 between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan. The estimated cost for the construction of this railway is around $7 billion, which, once completed, could facilitate the transportation of approximately 20 million tons of cargo annually.
