Muslim US Senator Abdul El-Sayed has called for an immediate end to the war with Iran and urged Washington to return to diplomacy.
Mr El-Sayed, the first Muslim elected to the US Senate from Michigan, said the conflict was imposing significant costs on Americans, including higher fuel and food prices and increased financial pressure on taxpayers.
He urged Congress to use its constitutional powers to end the war and said the US should pursue dialogue and negotiations with Iran rather than further military escalation.
El-Sayed also argued that diplomacy had previously helped contain concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme and said Washington should return to that approach.
