US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is considering his options for the future, including the possibility of leaving President Donald Trump’s administration, Bloomberg has reported.
The report, published on Thursday, 5 November, cited unnamed officials as saying that Mr Rubio and his advisers were discussing possible options. However, he has not yet made a decision about stepping down as secretary of state or national security adviser, and no timetable has been set for a possible departure.
The report comes amid growing divisions within the Republican Party following its heavy losses in the US midterm elections. The results have fuelled criticism and internal disputes among senior Republicans.
On Wednesday, Vice-President JD Vance, who, like Mr Rubio, is seen as a potential contender in the 2028 presidential election, blamed the war with Iran for his party’s poor performance in the congressional elections.
