France’s foreign ministry says technical talks with the Taliban over the deportation of undocumented Afghan migrants do not amount to recognising the Taliban authorities.
Ministry spokesman Pascal Confavreux said France did not recognise the Taliban and had no intention of doing so. He said the technical discussions were strictly focused on practical issues and should not be interpreted as a change in France’s position towards the Taliban.
Confavreux also rejected reports in some French media that a Taliban delegation was present at the Afghan consulate in Paris, saying there was no Taliban delegation at the consulate on Thursday.
