Roy Cooper, the Democratic candidate who won a US Senate seat in North Carolina, has called for an end to the war with Iran in his victory speech.

According to the Associated Press, Cooper made the remarks on Tuesday evening, 3 November, during a victory rally in Raleigh, the state capital.

He said he would work in the Senate to bring down the cost of fuel and food, while also pushing for an end to the conflict with Iran.

Cooper said he was going to Washington to represent the people of North Carolina and pledged to be an independent voice in the Senate.

He defeated Republican candidate Michael Whatley, who was backed by President Donald Trump, securing the Senate seat for the Democrats.

The 69-year-old previously served as North Carolina’s governor from 2017 to 2025 and is a prominent figure in the state’s Democratic Party.

His victory comes as the war with Iran and the rising cost of living remain key issues in the US midterm elections.
