Zalmay Khalilzad, the former US special representative for Afghanistan reconciliation, has called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their differences through dialogue and a bilateral agreement rather than escalating military tensions.
He warned that expanding the conflict and increasing India’s and Russia’s support for Afghanistan could further complicate regional tensions.
Khalilzad said both countries should commit to preventing individuals and groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State (IS), from using their territory to threaten the neighbouring country.
He added that the next move to ease tensions was now up to Pakistan.
