Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and to attend a summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).
Pezeshkian arrived at Vnukovo Airport late on Monday and was welcomed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
He is due to take part in the eighth summit of the GECF on Tuesday, where leaders are expected to discuss cooperation among major gas-producing countries.
The visit comes as Tehran and Moscow seek to strengthen their strategic partnership across several areas, including trade, energy, security, science and culture.
Pezeshkian and Putin are also expected to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional and international developments.
Iran and Russia have sought to deepen their ties in recent years, with energy cooperation remaining an important part of their relationship.
