US President Donald Trump has repeated his pledge to pay $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans win control of both chambers of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
In a video message posted on Truth Social, Trump said the payment would be made if Republicans win both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
He had previously made the same pledge at a Republican gathering in Dallas, describing the proposed payment as a form of economic “dividend” for American citizens.
The proposal could cost more than $1tn, and it remains unclear how it would be funded. Any such payment would also require approval by Congress.
