A Taliban fighter has claimed that he killed 14 people in a single day during fighting in Afghanistan’s Panjshir province.
The fighter made the remarks in a conversation with British YouTuber Will Bailey, who recently travelled to Afghanistan.
Asked how he felt about killing people, the fighter said he had no emotion when killing those he considered “non-believers” or opponents of Sharia law. He compared such killings to killing a chicken.
According to the interpreter, the fighter was referring to members of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRF).
The claim could not be independently verified. The date of the alleged killings, the identities of those killed and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
The remarks come amid longstanding allegations by human rights organisations of extrajudicial killings, torture and arbitrary detention of people accused of links to the NRF in Panjshir.
