Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that US sanctions have failed to achieve Washington’s objectives and accused the United States of subsequently going to war with Iran on behalf of Israel.
In a post on X on Tuesday night, 8 September, Araghchi said that despite 47 years of sanctions against Iran, the US had failed to achieve its goals.
He claimed that the consequences of the war with Iran had been “disastrous” for the United States, particularly in terms of its international standing and credibility.
Araghchi also criticised the latest US sanctions, sarcastically describing them as Washington’s “innovative solution” after sanctions and war had failed to achieve their intended objectives.
His remarks came after the US Treasury announced a new package of sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector. The latest measures include 27 Iranian airlines and related entities.
