Mojtaba Khamenei Reportedly Sets Lebanon’s Territorial Integrity as Condition for US Deal

Several Iranian media outlets have published a message attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s Supreme Leader, saying Tehran considers Lebanon’s territorial integrity and a halt to Israeli attacks on Hezbollah as key conditions for an agreement with the United States. The message, reportedly addressed to Hezbollah officials, states that Iran has made the protection of Lebanon’s territorial integrity and the end of Israeli attacks against Hezbollah a primary condition of the agreement. The reported memorandum was signed in late June and included a 60-day ceasefire extension to allow nuclear talks between Iran and the US to continue. However, tensions over developments in the Strait of Hormuz later put the agreement at risk. Mojtaba Khamenei had previously said he opposed the deal and held President Masoud Pezeshkian and members of the Supreme National Security Council responsible for it.
