Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has criticised what he described as attempts to promote a narrative of failure regarding the Islamic Republic’s recent performance, saying such views do not serve the country’s national interests. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Pezeshkian said that “some people inside the country continue to insist on spreading a narrative of defeat,” adding that such an approach was not in line with national interests. Referring to the role of Iran’s Supreme Leader in major national decisions, Pezeshkian said: “Is it possible for the government to take action on major issues without coordination and permission from the Supreme Leader?” The Iranian president also claimed that many international observers and analysts believe the United States and Israel have failed to achieve their objectives “both on the battlefield and in diplomacy.” The remarks come as Iran’s recent actions and their consequences have drawn mixed reactions and assessments both inside the country and internationally.
