Afghanistan’s Freedom Front has claimed that its fighters inflicted heavy casualties on Taliban forces during clashes in parts of Zebak district in Badakhshan province on Sunday. In a statement, the group said that scattered fighting between its fighters and Taliban forces was continuing in some areas, adding that Taliban personnel were preparing to withdraw from positions around the district centre. The Freedom Front also claimed that Taliban fighters had planted mines around their checkpoints as they prepared to leave the area. The Taliban have not yet commented on the claims, and there has been no independent confirmation of the reported casualties or the situation on the ground.
