Iran says one sailor has been killed and another injured after a commercial vessel belonging to Iran was targeted in an attack in the Caspian Sea. Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said the incident was a “hostile act” and accused Ukraine of violating the UN Charter. Tehran warned that such actions could contribute to a further expansion of the war between Russia and Ukraine. In a statement, Iran said it would not hesitate to defend its “national interests and security” and held Ukraine and its supporters responsible for the consequences of the attack. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier said that Ukrainian forces had targeted a Russian naval vessel and several ships allegedly used to transport military-related cargo linked to Iran in the Caspian Sea. Ukraine said the cargo ships Port Olya 2 and Begi were among the targets of the operation. However, the claims made by both sides have not been independently verified.
