US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov have held talks on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers’ meeting in Pasay City, Manila, the Philippines. Ahead of the meeting, Mr Rubio said Washington was seeking to play a constructive role in efforts to end the war in Ukraine and that discussions with his Russian counterpart would focus on the ongoing conflict. The two foreign ministers began their talks in Manila, with the latest developments in the Ukraine war and possible approaches to addressing the crisis expected to be among the main topics of discussion. The meeting comes as the war in Ukraine remains one of the most significant points of tension between Moscow and Washington.
