US President Donald Trump has announced that Iran has released an American citizen who had been detained in the country. In a post on Truth Social,Trump said Iran had allowed the US citizen, whom he said was “wrongfully detained” in December 2024 during Joe Biden’s presidency, to leave the country. He did not identify the woman by name, but said she was “now safe and no longer in Iran”. Trump thanked Iran for what he described as a “gesture of goodwill”.
