Bank Alfalah ends 20-year operations in Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Bank Alfalah has completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan after 20 years of operations, transferring its banking business and assets to Ghazanfar Bank.

The transaction was finalised on 5 November 2026, following the completion of the required documentation and regulatory approvals from the State Bank of Pakistan and Da Afghanistan Bank. The deal also includes the transfer of assets and liabilities associated with the bank’s operations in Afghanistan.

Bank Alfalah began operating in Afghanistan in 2005, opening its first branch in Kabul before expanding to Herat. Following the completion of the transfer, the Pakistani bank has ended its banking operations in Afghanistan.
