Trump Says Iran May Be Waiting for US Midterm Elections to Reach Deal

US President Donald Trump has said Iran may be waiting for the US midterm elections before reaching an agreement with Washington, warning that the vote would not improve Tehran’s position.

“The Islamic Republic wanted to make a deal. Maybe they are waiting for the elections. The elections won’t help them,” Trump said.

He also claimed that US military action had severely weakened Iran’s military capabilities and that the country’s financial resources had been significantly depleted.

“We have crushed their military capabilities and severely weakened their financial resources. They have no money,” Trump said.

The US president also repeated his claim that Iran has the world’s highest inflation rate, putting it at 340%. However, this figure has not been independently verified as the highest in the world.

Trump’s comments come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the US maintaining pressure on Iran while leaving open the possibility of a negotiated settlement.

In recent remarks, Trump has said he is weighing whether to reach an agreement with Iran or intensify military action. Washington has also indicated that any further strikes could take place after the US midterm elections on 3 November.
