US Warns Gulf States to Prepare for Possible New Strikes on Iran

The United States has warned several Gulf Arab states to prepare for the possibility of a short but intense military campaign against Iran after America’s midterm elections on 3 November, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

According to the newspaper, Washington is stepping up military preparations in the region as the US and Israel consider their options for a possible new phase of confrontation with Tehran.

US forces are strengthening air and missile defences, replenishing ammunition supplies and preparing bombers and fighter jets for potential strikes. The preparations also reportedly include moving additional military assets to the region and reinforcing protection for US forces and bases.

The report said US President Donald Trump had not made a final decision on whether to launch a new attack on Iran. However, people familiar with internal discussions said he was inclined towards a broader military operation after the midterm elections.

Potential targets could include Iranian infrastructure and nuclear facilities, with the aim of weakening Tehran’s military capabilities and putting pressure on its leadership, the newspaper reported.

The White House has declined to comment on sensitive military plans, saying it does not discuss operations that may or may not exist. It has reiterated that Trump is keeping all options open to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

Israel is also reportedly examining plans for possible further strikes against Iran, as regional mediators continue efforts to revive negotiations between Tehran and Washington.

However, the reported military preparations do not mean an attack has been authorised. No final decision to launch a new operation has been publicly confirmed.
