Trump says he deserved eight Nobel Peace Prizes

US President Donald Trump has criticised the Nobel Committee after failing to win this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, describing the decision as an “indelible stain” on Norway. In a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, Trump claimed he deserved eight Nobel Peace Prizes for his role in resolving eight international conflicts, rather than just one.

Trump also criticised Navi Pillay, a South African jurist associated with this year’s prize, describing her as a liberal figure and accusing her of hostility towards Israel, without providing evidence for the claim. He listed several conflicts in which he said he had played a role in securing peace, including disputes involving India and Pakistan, Israel and Iran, Cambodia and Thailand, and Serbia and Kosovo. Trump also claimed that leaders from countries involved in these conflicts had written to the Norwegian Nobel Committee in support of his nomination.

The US president further credited his administration with preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, securing the return of Israeli hostages and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. He also said he was close to resolving the conflicts involving Iran and Russia’s war in Ukraine. Trump’s claims about his role in these developments have not all been independently verified.
