Eight civilians, including women and children, have been killed or injured in an air strike in Helmand province, local officials say.

Mawlawi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, a spokesman for the Helmand governor, told Herat Radio that the strike took place early on Thursday in the Satar area of Garm Sir district.

He said four civilians were killed and four others injured in the attack. Those in critical condition were taken to an emergency hospital in the provincial capital for treatment, he added.

Reports say Pakistani fighter jets also carried out air strikes on Garm Sir in Helmand and Shaltan district in Kunar early on Thursday, with around 20 civilians reportedly killed or injured in the attacks.
