Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, has said the current governing structure in Afghanistan is limited and does not adequately represent the country’s population.
Speaking at a meeting in Islamabad, Sadiq said lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan required an inclusive political arrangement with the meaningful participation of all Afghans.
He said Afghanistan was not only a bilateral issue and called for the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to play a role in addressing challenges facing the country.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also called on the Taliban to govern through an inclusive political process involving all ethnic and minority groups.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban to form a more representative government since returning to power in 2021.
