Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has again described Afghanistan as a source of growing security threats to Pakistan in his address to the UN General Assembly.
He said Islamabad believed groups including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were present in Afghanistan and were carrying out attacks against Pakistan from there.
Sharif alleged that the Taliban were providing these groups with “safe havens” on Afghan soil, describing their continued activities as a serious security challenge for Pakistan.
The Pakistani prime minister also expressed concern over the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan, stressing the importance of access to education and the protection of their fundamental rights.
The Taliban have previously rejected Pakistan’s allegations that groups opposed to Islamabad are using Afghan territory to carry out attacks against Pakistan.
