Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of the People’s Islamic Unity Party of Afghanistan, has told Afghanistan International that Shia protests are not directed solely at the Taliban’s justice minister, but at the Taliban system as a whole.
Mohaqiq said that if pressure on Shia Muslims continued, they “would not remain silent”.
In the interview, he spoke about what he described as increasing pressure on Shia and Hazara communities under Taliban rule and called for greater attention to the situation.
Mohaqiq has previously criticised Taliban policies towards Shia Muslims and other ethnic and religious groups in Afghanistan.
