Thousands of Afghans have returned from Iran in recent months as the country’s economic crisis has made it increasingly difficult for migrants to earn a living, Reuters reports.
Many returnees said rising prices, falling incomes and a lack of employment had left them unable to afford to remain in Iran. Some families said they had lost much of their savings and assets before returning to Afghanistan.
The return movement has also included women and entire families, rather than mainly men travelling alone.
The latest returns come as many Afghans continue to face serious economic difficulties after returning to a country struggling with poverty and limited employment opportunities.
