About 2.4 million Afghan girls have been denied access to secondary education since the Taliban returned to power in 2021, according to UNESCO.
Reuters, citing UNESCO, reported that Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where girls and women are formally barred from secondary and higher education.
UNESCO has warned that the continued restrictions are having a significant impact on Afghanistan’s education system and are preventing millions of girls from continuing their studies.
