Iran has claimed responsibility for missile strikes targeting a US military base in Jordan, as tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate across the region.
According to Reuters, the strikes were carried out in response to US attacks on Iranian vessels.
There have been no confirmed reports so far of casualties or significant damage resulting from the strikes.
The reported Iranian attack came a day after Yemen’s Houthi movement launched attacks on several cities and oil facilities in southern Saudi Arabia. Reports said 73 people were injured in those attacks.
The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen condemned the Houthi attacks, warning that they would not go unanswered.
Meanwhile, US Central Command said nearly 100 Iranian vessels had changed course following a US naval blockade. The command described the move as part of continued pressure on Tehran.
Iranian officials have condemned the US sanctions and naval blockade, describing them as part of Washington’s broader pressure campaign and vowing to continue resisting the measures.
