Karzai Commemorates the Legacy of Former Afghan King Mohammad Zahir Shah

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has paid tribute to the late King Mohammad Zahir Shah on the 19th anniversary of his death, offering prayers for his soul in a statement. Karzai described the former monarch as a moderate, patriotic and wise leader, saying that during his reign Afghanistan experienced a period of stability, security and national unity, while gradually moving towards development and progress. He also highlighted the establishment of a constitutional system during Zahir Shah’s rule as one of his lasting achievements, saying it marked a significant turning point in Afghanistan’s history by supporting public rights and freedoms and laying the foundation for democratic institutions. Karzai added that the late king’s efforts to promote peace, return to Afghanistan and spend his final years in his homeland with dignity reflected his commitment to the country and its people, saying his legacy would remain in Afghanistan’s history.
