United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has described attacks on civilian infrastructure as “unacceptable” following Iran’s accusations that the United States had targeted bridges and transport facilities. Farhan Haq, the spokesperson for the UN chief, told reporters on Friday that Guterres remained “deeply concerned about the continued escalation of military tensions between Iran and the United States.” He said the Secretary-General was particularly concerned about reported attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and across the region, stressing that such actions were unacceptable. The comments came after Iran accused the United States of targeting civilian facilities, including bridges and transport centres. Washington has so far not confirmed the allegations made by Iran regarding attacks on civilian infrastructure.
