Hana: Afghan migrants in Iran face growing legal and administrative barriers

The human rights organisation Hana says Afghan migrants in Iran, particularly women and children, are facing widespread obstacles in registering marriages, births, divorces and other civil documents, as well as in accessing courts and legal protection. In a report, the organisation warned that following recent hostilities, increased security measures, internet shutdowns, disruptions to public services, and expanded administrative restrictions have further limited many Afghan migrants’ access to justice, essential services and basic rights. Hana has called on Iranian authorities to simplify civil registration procedures for Afghan migrants, ensure effective protection of women and children’s rights, and avoid any measures that restrict migrants’ access to judicial and administrative institutions.
