Donald Trump, President of the United States, has said that during a potential 60-day ceasefire period, no tolls or fees will be charged for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump wrote on Truth that such fees would also remain suspended after the end of this period, unless a final agreement is not reached between the parties. Trump warned that, in the event no agreement is reached, the United States may impose charges in order to recover past, present, and future costs. He also described the role of the United States in the Middle East as a “guardian angel,” a characterization that reflects what he presented as Washington’s supportive stance toward developments in the region.
