U.S. Vice President J. D. Vance has said that any potential conflict with Iran would not repeat the experience of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for Washington and would not turn into a “military quagmire.” According to Al Jazeera, Vance told USA Today that he believes there will be no discussion of direct U.S. involvement in Iran, even a year from now, let alone several years into the future. “I think we will succeed,” he said. “If diplomacy ultimately falls apart, the president has additional tools at his disposal.” Vance also stressed that “as long as this remains tied to the core mission of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, it will not become a quagmire.” His remarks come amid continued tensions over Iran’s nuclear program and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation in the region.
