Fasihuddin Fitrat, Chief of Staff of the Taliban’s armed forces, has said that no group or individual will be able to threaten Afghanistan’s security, adding that any attempt to destabilise the country will be met with a “decisive response” from Taliban forces. Fitrat made the remarks during a visit to Zebak district in Badakhshan province. He claimed that a number of armed men, who he alleged had received weapons and logistical support in Pakistan, attempted to attack the district but were repelled by Taliban forces. He further claimed that many of the attackers were killed during the clashes. However, he did not provide details on the number of casualties or the identities of those involved, and his claims have not been independently verified.
