German media have reported that Amnesty International and the Protestant Church in Germany have welcomed a ruling by the country’s Federal Constitutional Court concerning the admission programme for Afghan refugees. According to the reports, the organisations said the German government cannot cancel its commitment to accept Afghan refugees as a general measure and must assess each individual case separately. Representatives of the organisations stressed that many Afghan refugees in Pakistan are facing difficult conditions and that returning them to Afghanistan could expose them to risks. They have called on the German government to implement the court’s decision as soon as possible and review the cases of people included in the admission programme
