IRGC Says It Targeted US Military Base in Kuwait in Response to American Attack

Several hours after multiple reports of rocket fire targeting locations in Kuwait and Bahrain, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched an attack on a military facility belonging to the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Kuwait. In a statement, the IRGC said the strike was carried out in response to what it described as US attacks on an oil tanker, as well as the targeting of an IRGC telecommunications tower in the southern part of Qeshm Island. Meanwhile, the United States Joint Military Command said in a separate statement that it had intercepted the rocket attacks and had subsequently launched strikes against parts of Iranian territory. If confirmed, the incident could represent the most serious military confrontation between the two countries since a ceasefire was established in the month of Hamal. At the same time, US President Donald Trump said that despite the rising tensions, talks between Washington and Tehran were continuing and that the two sides could reach a peace agreement as early as next week. Kuwait and Bahrain were also cited in reports as locations where rocket attacks had been recorded
