Russia and the Taliban have signed a military and technical cooperation agreement during an international security forum in Moscow, according to Russian media reports. Taliban Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid met with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, and said the Taliban values its relations with Moscow and wants to expand cooperation further. Shoigu said Russia has strengthened ties with the Taliban since formally recognising the group in 2025, including cooperation in security and other sectors. Military and technical agreements usually include cooperation on weapons, defence technologies and joint projects.
