Five members of a family, including women and children, were killed in an explosion in the Dara-e-Pech district of eastern Kunar Province, local sources told media outlets. Earlier reports had suggested that the incident was caused by a rocket attack from Pakistan. However, Najibullah Hanif, head of the Information and Culture Department in Kunar, told local media that the explosion occurred after munitions detonated inside a residential house. He did not provide details on how the explosives had been transported to or stored inside the home. Some media reports said the family had recently moved to Kunar from the Swat region in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
