Taliban’s intelligence chief and his son killed in explosion in Kunar

ASADABAD: Local sources in Kunar province said that Shabir Ahmad, the Taliban intelligence chief for the Shigal district, was killed in an explosion along with his son. According to sources, Shabir Ahmad’s brother, who worked as his bodyguard, was also injured in the incident. The explosion occurred around noon on Friday, when the Taliban intelligence chief’s son was handling explosives in a room, as a result, a mortar shell detonated, claiming the lives of three individuals. Sources indicate that Shabir Ahmad’s son was killed at the scene, while Shabir himself succumbed to severe injuries after being transported to Kunar Hospital. Shabir Ahmad was originally from the Ghaziabad district of Kunar and had been appointed as the intelligence chief for the Taliban in Shigal following their takeover. Local Taliban officials in Kunar have not yet commented on the incident.
