GAZA: The meeting between Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, and Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in London has been described as “difficult and tense.” This meeting took place on Wednesday, just one day after Israel’s airstrike in Qatar, reportedly aimed at targeting Hamas political leaders. During the discussion, Starmer expressed serious concerns about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for a halt to military operations and the opening of pathways for humanitarian aid. He emphasized that the ongoing situation is catastrophic for Gaza’s civilians. According to Herzog, the main disagreement between the two sides centers on the UK’s proposal to recognize a Palestinian state and the Prime Minister’s views on humanitarian assistance in Gaza. The UK, alongside France and Canada, plans to recognize the Palestinian government at the end of this month, contingent upon a ceasefire from Israel. This move could significantly impact the future of the conflict and the fate of Gaza. This meeting comes at a time when the war in Gaza has put Israel’s relations with the UK and several European countries under serious strain.
