Taliban prevent women from entering UN offices in Kabul

KABUL: Local sources in Kabul report that the Taliban have barred female employees and visitors from entering United Nations camps for the past two days. The Taliban forces on Monday stood at the entrance of the “YUNKA” camp, preventing women from entering. Women who had already entered the camp were also forced to leave. Eyewitnesses indicate that similar actions were taken at the “Baron Camp” near Kabul Airport. Sources confirm that these actions were carried out under the orders of the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and the Taliban leadership. Several UN employees in Kabul have confirmed this situation, but the Taliban and the UN office have not yet issued any official response. Earlier reports indicated that the Taliban had threatened some female UN employees in Kabul and exerted pressure on their families. In April 2023, the Taliban officially banned women from working in UN offices in Afghanistan, a decision that, according to UN officials, poses a serious threat to humanitarian aid efforts in the country.
