Eastern Afghanistan’s earthquake death toll exceeds 2,200

KABUL: As rescue operations continue in the earthquake-affected areas of Kunar in eastern Afghanistan, the death toll from this natural disaster has surpassed 2,200. Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, reported that hundreds of bodies have been retrieved from the rubble in the Mazar Valley of the Nurgal district, as well as in the Dewa Gul Valley of the Suki district and the districts of Chap Dara and Manugi. According to him, the total number of fatalities has reached 2,205, with the number of injured at 3,640. Fitrat emphasized that search and rescue efforts are still ongoing.
