KHOST: Local sources in Khost have reported a rise in murders and thefts, highlighted by the recent killing of a young man named Irfanullah by gunfire from a Taliban member’s weapon. According to sources, the incident occurred near the Khost Police Headquarters, in front of Babrak Khan Park. It is said that a bullet from Muhammad Nabi Omari Taliban’s former governor and members of Haqqani network’s weapon struck Irfanullah while he was shopping in the city with his elder brother. Witnesses indicated that the young man worked at a local printing press and was earning some income to support his family. Following the incident, Taliban members visited the victim’s family, offering around 200,000 Afghanis as compensation and claiming that the shooting was an “accident.” According to reports, the bullet had previously been fired from the weapon, which struck Irfanullah, causing severe injuries that led to his death on the way to the hospital. Recent insecurity and the irresponsible circulation of weapons in Khost have raised concerns among residents, who express that the increase in unexplained murders and thefts poses serious challenges to the city’s security situation.
