Tragedy traffic accident claims lives of over 70 people in Herat

HERAT: As a result of a traffic accident on the Herat-Islam Qala highway on Tuesday evening 76 individuals lost their lives. According to sources, the accident occurred when a 580-type passenger vehicle, carrying Afghan returnees from Iran, collided with a motorcycle and then with a Mazda-type cargo truck, and according to some reports 74 people including the drivers of both vehicles and the motorcycle lost their lives and three others were injured and their health conditions were reported critical. Meanwhile, the Taliban’s spokesman for Herat governor said that 71 people lost their lives, including 17 children. The victims are said to be migrants who were traveling from Herat to Kabul after being expelled from Iran. Police said that investigations are underway to find the cause of the deadly incident.
